Craig Douglas Rossell

Craig Douglas Rossell, of Thornton, passed away at Limestone Medical Center in Groesbeck, on Monday, February 8, 2021, at age 67.

A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date, with friends welcome to attend.

Craig was born November 2, 1953, to Carl Rossell and Ophey (Oatley) Rossell in Mesick, Michigan. The family moved to Texas when he was young. As a young man, Craig worked as a carpenter building houses. He trained in electrical work and became a Journeyman electrician. He lived and worked in the Houston and Baytown area, and did electrical work in restaurants, refineries, and chemical plants, including the BP plant.

Craig united in marriage with Marsha Leigh Daw thirty years ago. They met through mutual friends and got to know each other while attending dart tournaments. They continued to live in Baytown after their marriage until he retired, and even before retirement, they would travel to Groesbeck on days off.

They moved to Groesbeck about twenty years ago, and he worked as an electrician and in maintenance for the Groesbeck ISD and also did work for the public. He took up crafts in his spare time and made many “tin men,” as well as cutting out wooden goats (which his wife painted) and other football symbols which they displayed on the backyard fence to sell. Craig loved puzzles and watching game shows on TV, especially Jeopardy and the American Pickers. And since he was a car-fanatic, he liked watching car shows. He also was a dedicated collector of M&M memorabilia, with enough to fill two rooms.

Craig and Marsha bought the Lemley Trailer Park at Thornton and moved there, where he was occupied fulltime in taking care of the trailers, the grounds, and the tenants, including babysitting and problem-solving.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents; teen-age daughter, Elizabeth Rossell; 3 brothers, Carl, Russell, and Dennis; and a sister, JoAnn.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha Rossell of Thornton; daughters, Faith, Sheila, and Kimberly; son, Kevin Hutchison of Thornton; daughter, Mindy Murphy of Thornton; daughter and son in-law, Melba and Bruce Heath of Conroe; seven grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren: Jonathan and Rebecca Monceaux and their children, Harlan, Sterling, Abel, Avery, Marlie, and Odin of Utah; Josh Kramer and son, Jett of Michigan; Savannah and Jeffery Minton and their son, Jeffery Jr. of Conroe; Kaitlynn Hutchison and her son Noah and her fiancé Lawrence Fulmer of Groesbeck; Cameryn Hutchison of Thornton; Benjiman Hutchison of Thornton; and Gracie Compton of Conroe. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Jeanie and John Alkire of Kentucky.
