DAVID MCKINNON PALMER

David McKinnon Palmer, of Lake Limestone, TX, passed away peacefully at Baylor Scott and White in Temple on Nov. 3, 2025.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 10, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Brandon Verm officiating. He was interred on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery, beside his wife and son. Texas Game Wardens were named as his honorary pallbearers.

David was born Jan. 12, 1941, in Brown County, TX. to Ben McKinnon Palmer and Ruth (Chilton) Palmer. David grew up in Brownwood, TX. where he met and married his lifelong love, Betty Jane Wells. They were married in 1961 until her passing in 2022.

David attended the 8th Game Warden training academy. Upon graduation in 1965, he was assigned to Scurry County, TX as a Game Warden. He later moved to Austin where he became Director II and retired as Major from state service.

David and Betty moved to Lake Limestone, where he loved to fish with his family at their home on the lake. He also enjoyed going fishing off the coast.

David was preceded in death by his parents, B.M. and Ruth Palmer; wife, Betty Jane Palmer; son, Michael David Palmer and brother, James Ray Palmer.

He is survived by grandchildren, Crystal Palmer (Brandon Vanderslice) of Sweetwater, Amber (Curtis) Green of Hutto, and Magen Johnson of Goldthwaite; and great grandchildren, Tyler (Sydney) Palmer, Haven Hargrove, Braxton Hail, Anthony Green, Nash Johnson, Abel Johnson, Aden Johnson, and Michaela Johnson; and great-great grandchild, Easton Hargrove. Also, nephew, Gary (Sissy) Palmer of Kingsville, niece, Gena (Tookie) Berry of Odessa.
