Deborah Wynn (Weihausen) Erskine
With aching & sorrowful hearts, her family regrets to share that Deborah “Debbie” Wynn (Weihausen) Erskine passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 4th, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan/ College Station.
Visitation will be hosted at Groesbeck Funeral Home on Friday, July 7th from 6-8pm; followed by a 10am gravesite service on Saturday, July 8th at Faulkenberry Cemetery of Groesbeck, Texas.
Greeting the world in the middle of the night on March 1st, 1965, in the small town of Visalia, nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Mountains, she was born as second child to Wilma Pauline “Paula” (Boykin) and David Henry Weihausen. As a child, Debbie would live in California, Arkansas and Texas and eventually become oldest sister to the band of 8 spirited children within her blended family. When she moved to Groesbeck as a young girl, she made many lasting friendships and memories that she still held onto as she left this world. As a teenager, she helped care for her younger siblings and enjoyed reading and drawing when she had the time.
She would go on to graduate from Groesbeck High School in May of 1980 and then marry her high school sweetheart, James Stovall “Jim” Erskine of Stranger, TX in August of 1980. Debbie & Jim would work to merge their lives together, living in a variety of Texas towns and welcoming into the world three children of their own - Megan, Justin and Shawn - before they divorced in 2001.
Debbie then moved to Grimes County in 2002, where she started to craft her life anew, building new relationships, starting work for USDA Wildlife Services where she has continued until her passing and completing her Bachelor’s degree at Sam Houston State University.
She had a love for horses, her pets, the serenity & optimism of wide-open fields and above all, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was full of warmth with a dash of spice and loved her brood dearly, including her soon-to-be but already-considered daughter (in-law), Cally Hardwick. Her greatest joy was watching her children & grandchildren grow and her greatest hope was to see them live a happy & fulfilled life.
Debbie was preceded in death by her father, grandparents and adopted brother, Michael Bell.
She is survived by her children, Megan (Paul) Bennett of Willis, Justin (Cally) Erskine of Groesbeck and Shawn Erskine of Kosse; grandchildren, Keira and Sophie; mother, Paula Bell of Flint; stepmother, Suzanne Weihausen of Groesbeck; siblings, Dave Weihausen of Fort Worth, Donald (Sara) Weihausen of Albuquerque, Alan (Heather) Weihausen of Groesbeck, Brian (Mindy) Weihausen of Idaho, Rachel (Cory) Thomas of Chandler, Tami Rhoades of Austin and Amanda Morgan of Arkansas; sisterby- choice, Lisa Alewine; and many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
She will be mourned as a life taken too soon, loved for all that she gave of herself to others and the lessons she taught us, and remembered & carried in our hearts through all future moments of joy.
