Donna Marie “Ginnie” Allen

Donna Marie “Ginnie” Allen, of Thornton, passed away January 20, 2020, in Webster, Texas at the age of 82. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 23, 2020, in Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Bro. John Caribin officiating. Interment was in the Lost Prairie Cemetery. Charlie McDaniel, Zyon Leonard, Colby Blacknall, Gabe Crespo, Brody Wallace, and Crawford Wallace served as pallbearers.

Donna was born August 3, 1937, in Lost Prairie, Texas to William Prentice and Willie Mae Vickery Vest. She lived most of her life in Limestone County. On August 11, 1956, she married her lifelong partner, Robert L. Allen, in Teague, Texas. They were blessed with two daughters, Brenda and Rhonda. She was first, and most importantly, a homemaker, however, she worked for the Mexia Textile Mill as well as a carhop – on roller skates. Being a strongwilled woman, she, along with the other women, walked out at the Mill after their boss was fired; he was the only one that would stand up and defended the women.

Donna’s life revolved around her family. After her first grandson came along, he couldn’t say Grandma, so she became, affectionately, known as “Ginnie”, which also became her new name to everyone. Although she loved her husband and daughters, the grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and great-greatgrandchild were so special and truly owned her heart. In the eyes of her grands, Ginnie was a model grandmother who, too, was dearly loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William P. and Willie Mae Vest; grandson, Andrew Shockley; and siblings, Etta Vest Richardson, Bruce, Herman, Melvin, Ruben, and Aubrey Gene Vest.

Donna is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Robert L. Allen; daughters, Brenda M. McDaniel and husband, Charles of Groesbeck and Rhonda Yawn and husband, Carlton “Buzz” of Groves; grandchildren, Charlie McDaniel, Rachel & Tim Newman, Melody McDaniel, Elizabeth Shockley, and Dustin Ferguson, Timothy and Tammy Shockley, Nicki and Dakota St. John, Corinna Yawn, and Dani Shockley; a number of greatgrandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
