Emilie Anne Jones

Emilie Anne Jones entered her heavenly home on January 3, 2022, at the age of 85.

Emilie was born in her childhood home on May 10, 1936, in Wortham, Texas to Ernest Monroe and Ora (McLeod) Jones. She grew up in Wortham and was a graduate of Wortham High School, Class of 1954. Not venturing far from home, she entered Baylor University where she received her BBA in 1957, graduating with honors. On May 31, 1957, she married her lifelong partner, Jon Robert Jones, and together they raised their three sons, Jon Brent (Brent), Jeff Monroe (Jeff) and James Keith (Keith) in Wortham.

Emilie was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a very devoted Christian. Although she worked full-time for First National Bank in Wortham for 14 years and then went on to teach business classes at Wortham High School for 15 years, her family, church and community responsibilities were always a priority for her.

Emilie was a life-long active member of the First Baptist Church in Wortham. She taught Sunday school and Wednesday night classes for many years in addition to being the church pianist from 1966 to 1998. She was a Wortham High School senior sponsor, active in the school booster clubs and a volunteer for numerous other church, school and community activities. Emilie was also an avid collector of antiques and enjoyed working in the yard and spending time with her dog, Blue.

Second to her faith and devotion to her church, Emilie’s priority was her family. She was a devoted daughter to her parents Earnest and Ora, and in her later years loved watching and supporting her children and grandchildren in, not only their sporting events but anything in which they were involved. Emilie loved to cook, bake and welcome others into her home. Many of the childhood friends of her boys and grandchildren viewed her as their adopted mother or grandmother and will always remember the good food she made and insisted they enjoy their time while visiting.

Emilie faithfully studied her bible, which was marked with many passages and verses that were important to her, but one of her favorites was Isaiah 40:31, which she also quoted in notes she wrote to her children and grandchildren: “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Emilie was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Ora Jones; and brother, Robert Monroe Jones. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jon Jones of Wortham; sons, Brent Jones and wife, Patty, Jeff Jones and wife, Sheilla and Keith Jones and wife, Lori all of Wortham; grandchildren, Reilly McLeod Jones, Reagan McCandless Jones, Anna Renee Jones, Zach Monroe Jones, Sutton James Jones and wife, Jenna and Jake McLeod Jones and wife, Kailea; great-grandson, Jeter McLeod Jones; and her faithful companion, Blue.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to all who provided food, love, prayers, and support this week and special thanks to all of the caregivers who have loved and taken care of Emilie for the past few years and became part of the family.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 6, at First Baptist Church of Wortham.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 7, at the First Baptist Church of Wortham with Rev. Justin Colquette officiating. Interment will follow in the Wortham Cemetery. Her grandchildren, Reilly Jones, Reagan Jones, Anna Jones, Zach Jones, Sutton Jones and Jake Jones will serve as pallbearers. Granddaughters-in-law, Jenna Jones and Kailea Jones will be honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Wortham, P. O. Box 426, Wortham, Tx. 76693.
