Jeannette Katherine Simmons

Jeannette Katherine Simmons of Kosse passed away Monday, August 5, 2019 at Providence Hospital in Waco.

Graveside services were held Saturday, August 10, 2019, at Ebenezer Cemetery, with Pastor Tom Cambell officiating.

Jeannette was born August 23, 1936 in Houston to Thomas and Winnie (Freund) Lightner. She graduated from Pasadena schools and worked for Sears and Roebuck until her retirement in the mid 1980’s. She was married to Jones Simmons in 1978 until his death in 2008.

After retirement Jones and Jeannette moved to Kosse and purchased some land where they raised cattle, donkeys, goats and other farm animals. She was known as “Booger Red” to many in the community and “Granny Red” to her grandchildren. Jeannette loved dancing and attending Bluegrass festivals all over the state and traveling in her fifth wheel RV. Jeannette spent the last year of her life being loved and dancing away with her close friend Melvin Dixon.

Jeannette is preceded in death by her husband Jones Simmons in 2008, sons Larry and Bruce Arnold and stepson Jimmy Simmons.

She is survived by her son, Robert Arnold; stepdaughter Sandy Yettevich and husband John; grandchildren, Traci Pogue and Andrea Arnold as well as great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
