Johanna “JoJo” Cherie Ferguson

Johanna “JoJo” Cherie Ferguson of Groesbeck passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 along with her husband, Daryl Ferguson, Jr., following a car accident.

Funeral services honoring Johanna and Daryl Ferguson were held Friday, January 25, 2019 at Living Proof Church of Groesbeck, with John Carabin officiating.  The family honored Johanna’s wishes for cremation and she will be interred with her husband at LaSalle Cemetery.

There was no one else on this earth like JoJo and she was most certainly not one who could possibly be adequately summarized in such a small amount of words. She loved fiercely and each person that met her was changed in some way. She had the biggest heart of anyone we knew and the world got a little quieter when she left it. She was fearless and an amazing mother, sister, daughter, wife, and friend. Johanna loved country music and playing dominoes and her family meant everything to her.

Johanna is survived by her children: Bryston, 16, Camden, 15, Kovan, 12, and Jaylee, 6. She also leaves behind her parents, Cheryl Denton and stepfather Jerry “Otis” of Warrenville, South Carolina, Joe Bill Matous, Sr. and stepmother Beth of Bryan, Texas as well as her grandfather, Billy Harold Murphy of Bryan, Texas and mother in law Judy Ferguson of Groesbeck,  Texas. She is also survived by a large number of siblings including Jack Matous, Jessica McMurray and her husband Bryan, Janelle Matous, Justin Matous and his wife Lyndie, Jennifer Matous, Jessica Matous, Erin Denton, and Brittany McAlwee. Johanna also was blessed with 19 nieces and nephews that she adored; as well as too many aunts, uncles and cousins for this space to allow.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Joe Bill Matous, Jr., grandparents Joe and Betty Matous, Jack and Jonnie Cheatham, Martha Murphy, and Edward and Elizabeth Denton. She is also preceded by a cousin, Captain William “Iron Bill” Dowling, and an uncle, Lawrence Matous, as well as her father-in-law Daryl Ferguson, Sr.
