Martha Sue Wells

Martha Sue Wells, of Kosse, passed away peacefully at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, and went to be with her beloved Mike and her Lord in Heaven, on Thursday, January 14, 2021.

The family held private graveside services at Kosse City Cemetery.

Sue was born September 25, 1947 in Marlin to John Daniel McIntyre and Stella Mae McIntyre. She graduated from Marlin High School (Class of 1966) and attended Durham Business School.

Sue was united in marriage with Michael Wells on September 2, 1967 in Kosse. While Michael was serving in Viet Nam, Sue lived in Kosse, and then joined him for two years in Hawaii while he finished his service.

When they returned from Hawaii, Kosse became their permanent home for the rest of their lives. Sue worked for the Kosse Post Office as a rural mail carrier, and then worked at First National Bank in Groesbeck until she retired.

Family was the most important thing in Sue’s life, although her animals were also a major love in her life, with her dogs being treated like they were her children. She raised chickens (and loved roosters), ducks, a goat, and gardens. She was constantly outdoors until her declining health in the last few years. Sue was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kosse and had been very active through the years.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Michael Wells; her sister, Ginger Roan McIntyre; her brother, John McIntyre, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Dale Funderburk.

She is survived by her son, Steven Wells and his children, Bree and Blake Wells of Groesbeck, and her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Terri Wells and their children, Frances, John and Jackson Wells of Jackson, MS. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Nan and Jim “Buddy” Middleton of Houston; sister, Nancy Funderburk of Kosse; sister and brother-in-law, Paula and Leonard Slafka of Bremond; sister, Gail Fox of Kosse; sister-in-law, Sherry McIntyre of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.
