Mary Margaret Haywood Higginbotham

Mary Margaret Haywood Higginbotham of Groesbeck was welcomed into the arms of the Lord and joined the love of her life in their eternal heavenly home on Sunday, July 5, 2020, at the age of 86, having passed away at The Village of Gleannloch Farms rehab facility in Spring, Texas.

There will be open viewing at Groesbeck Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon (July 8) through Thursday (July 9).

Funeral Services will be graveside, and private due to current Texas Covid-19 restrictions, and will be held at 10:00 am on July 10, 2020 in Faulkenberry Cemetery, with Chaplain Jon Honea officiating.

Margaret was born on January 8, 1934 in St. Joseph, Louisiana to James Sollie (Sam) Haywood and Amy Morgan Haywood and was the fourth child of five born into that family. She resided in Newellton, Louisiana until she married, Carl Higginbotham, on November 11, 1955. They were happily married for 62 years until Carl’s death in 2018. They raised four children together.

Margaret became a resident of Groesbeck in 1999 after she and Carl retired and moved from their home of 24 years in Spring, Texas. They previously had made their home in Natchez, Mississippi, Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Aurora, Colorado; and finally the Haughton, Louisiana area for 18 years.

Her number one priority was family, and everyone she loved was family. She was a good Christian wife and mother and much of her married life was spent as a homemaker. She loved babies and children, and at one time taught kindergarten at a private school. After her children were grown, she worked in a daycare for a few years, and later kept children in her home. Those babies have all held a special place in her heart.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Carl; two sisters, Imogene Bobo and Virginia Higginbotham; two brothers, O.J. Haywood and Doyle Haywood; and daughter-in-law, Mary Higginbotham.

She is survived by four children (and spouses): Carla (Bill) Brady, Kent Higginbotham (Mary deceased 2010), Wade (Alicebeth) Higginbotham, and Beth (Jimmy) Wisniskie; twelve grandchildren (and spouses) who called her Momaw: Russell (Sarah) Schomer, Amy (Lyle) Halliwell, Sarah (Megan) Higginbotham, Casey Schomer, Emily (Fernando) Acosta, Ashley Davis, Brooke (Kirstie) Baker, Victoria (Steven) Gebert, Robert Brady, Marshall Wisniskie, Ashley Trappe, and Jim Nash; and thirteen great grandchildren who called her Momaw (Bobaw to one): Seth, Matthew, and Zoey Halliwell, Gavin Scribner, Colton and Carleigh Schomer, Jillian, Logan, and Allison Acosta, and Brady Nash, and not to leave out that little one on the way, Myles “Miley” Baker.

In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation in memory of Margaret Higginbotham to Shriner’s Hospitals or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
