Patricia Laurene (Nettles) Lincecum
Patricia Laurene (Nettles) Lincecum, “Pat,” of Lake Limestone (Thornton), passed away Monday, April 19, 2021, at age 73.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 24, 2021 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Richard Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Seale-Round Prairie Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Greg Gonzales, Jared Nettles, Michael Martin, Kevin Burdick, David Lincecum, Doug Lincecum, Kelley Boyd, and Bryan Lincecum. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Martin, Jerry Lincecum, Mike Coker, Ray Frankin, and Ken Neyland.
Pat was born June 11, 1947 in Thornton to Leslie Odell Nettles and Ray Edith (Thomason) Nettles. She grew up in Old Union, and went to school at Oletha from the first grade until it was consolidated with Groesbeck. Pat graduated from Groesbeck High School in the Class of 1965, and then moved to Dallas to live with her sister Jean while attending Draughons Business School. Pat had been dating and was engaged to Joe Lincecum, from Seale. While he was serving in Vietnam, she baked cookies to mail to him every week, until his return.
Pat and Joe were united in marriage on May 15, 1971 at the Groesbeck Church of Christ, by Brother Richard Williams. This year was the 50th anniversary of Joe’s return from Vietnam and their 50th wedding anniversary. Pat and Joe lived in several different towns where Joe was transferred in his work with USDA. Their daughter, Michelle was born while they lived in Jacksonville, and she graduated from school while they lived in Lumberton.
Pat worked for the State of Texas, as a secretary at Texas Rehabilitation Commission, in several towns, and during one period for the Rusk State Hospital. She worked the longest at TRC in Beaumont, where she retired in 1997. Pat, Joe and Michelle were so good to her parents, coming to see them frequently and Joe helped them in every way he could.
After they retired, Pat and Joe began the construction of a home at Lake Limestone. They moved into it in 2007, while construction was still in process. After Joe passed away in 2008, Pat had the full duties of completion of the house and taking care of the big yard. She successfully bore the new burden of taking care of all the family business alone, determined to remain strong for Michelle. Pat was a perfectionist in the yard and kept an immaculate home.
Pat was a faithful member of the Groesbeck Church of Christ. She was baptized as a youth during a meeting at Old Union by Bro. Malcolm Smith, though they had to come to Groesbeck to the old church of Christ building for the baptism. Pat could always be counted on for any supporting work of the church, including herding kids at VBS, hosting teenagers from out of town in her home, bringing food to the building for funerals and other fellowships, cards, prayers and donations. And not least, her beautiful voice was shared in the hymns sung by the congregation.
Pat’s life had many special occasions. When she married Joe, the sisters were involved, with Jo sewing her trousseau and all the bridesmaid’s dresses. When their daughter, Michelle was born, their life was full of happiness. Pat was so pleased to welcome Greg as her son-in-law when he asked her for Michelle’s hand in marriage. She loved every minute of their preparations and beautiful wedding. But, the greatest joy of Pat’s life came with the birth of her grandson, Anthony in 2016. It was Anthony and his loving parents who really brought the sparkle to her eyes and loving laugh to her face. Thank goodness for the age of smart phones so she could see him daily on her phone and show him off to others.
She was a dear sister to her five siblings, and was at home the longest with Perry and Billie, while Martha, Jean and Jo were grown up and away from home. Pat served where and when needed in driving family members to the hospital, tending to their health problems in their home or nursing them in her home, and seeing about Billie in the nursing home. She and Jean were constant companions in attending church services, doctor visits, shopping and other trips.
Although her family grieves deeply and will forever miss her, as will her friends, it is a comfort to know Pat was blessed every day by their love, and without a lengthy illness she was peacefully called to her eternal home in heaven on a beautiful last day while doing work she enjoyed.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Raye in 1994 and Les in 1996; her husband, Joe Lincecum in 2008; brother-in-law, Randy Burdick in 2012; brother-in-law, Tommy Ticknor in 2013; her brother, Perry Nettles in 2016; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Guy “Red” Martin in 2019; brother-in-law, Stanley Boyd in 2020; and sister, Billie Ticknor in March 2021. She was also preceded in death by an infant nephew, Scott Nettles in 1963; nephew, Layne Martin in 2012; and nephew, Wally Sherrod in 2014. Also, many other aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives have passed away during her lifetime.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Greg Gonzales and precious grandson, Anthony Gonzales of Manvel; sister, Jean Nettles of Groesbeck; sister, Jo Boyd of Groesbeck; sister-in-law, Karen Nettles of Groesbeck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
