Rita Joyce Kenyon

Rita Joyce Kenyon, of Mexia and formerly of Groesbeck, passed away at Groesbeck LTC on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at age 69.

A Memorial at the graveside at Fort Parker Memorial Park will be held at a later date by her family.

Rita was born February 22, 1949 in Groesbeck to Lee Rasco Stockton and Dorothy Anmis Crutcher Stockton.  She grew up in this area and graduated from Mart High School in 1967.

Rita could be called a nomad due to moving so many times.  She lived in various states, and had been living in Arizona before her final move back to Mexia during the past two years.  She worked many years, in many places, as a prison guard.   Then she and her husband Robert drove over-the-road trucks as a team until his illness and death.    Rita was brave enough to do anything she decided.

Rita was also a skilled horsewoman, who broke and trained horses for herself and others, including English riding and jumping.  She had endured many broken bones to prove her time spent on horses.    At quieter times she loved to read, and she loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren so much.   Rita was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, of which she became a member some years ago and had moved to the Mexia branch.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Stockton; grandson, Jeremiah Peters; and her last husband, Robert Kenyon.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Eric Lundh and Shavaughn (Lenamond) Lundh of Groesbeck; daughters, Sonya Lundh and Andrea Holmes; 12 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren; and two sisters, Sandra and Judy.
