Age 91
Funeral services for Roy Jack Burleson will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Bro. Roy Prather will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Burleson passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022, at his residence in Mexia.
He was born in De Leon, Tx on December 9, 1930, but grew up in Desdemona (Hog Town) and graduated from Desdemona High School. Mr. Burleson married Bonnie King on August 4, 1949, and shared over sixty-four years of marriage together before being separated by her death on December 28, 2013. He worked for Lonestar Oil Co and spent his entire career in the oil field, starting as a pumper and working his way up to several positions. Mr. Burleson was an avid hunter and loved to work his hounds with treeing game. He also enjoyed fishing and any outdoorsman activities. Mr. Burleson was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church in Teague.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Thompson & husband Bill of Teague and Connie Phillips & husband Mike of Mexia; one son, Charlie Burleson & wife Gayle of Teague; seven grandchildren, Cliff Phillips & wife Jenny, Kent Phillips & wife Jennifer, Misty Langley & husband David, Tim Parolini & wife April, Kenneth Thompson & wife Cristan, John Burleson & wife Jordan, and Katie Burleson & Taylor Kerzee; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Jim Burleson & wife Karen of Desdemona; one sister, Georgia Ann Iley of De Leon; one sister-in-law, Joyce Randolph of Dublin; numerous other relatives and friends.
Mr. Burleson was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie King Burleson; his parents, Lee Roy & Ima Lee Burleson; and two brothers-in-law, Howard Iley and Alfred Randolph.
