Russell Joseph Miller, Jr.

Russell Joseph Miller, Jr., known to everyone as “Red,” of Mexia (Fallon community) passed away at home on April 3, 2021, at age 67.

There will be a Memorial service at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 17, 2021, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.

Red was born July 13, 1953, to Russell Joseph Miller, Sr. and Teressa Nicholson Miller in the military town at the Mojave Desert in California. With his father in the military, he moved several times, then graduated from Tri-Valley High School in Dresden, Ohio in 1972. His parents have preceded him in death.

Red started work in Ohio in the coal mine. When that mine shut down, he moved to Texas to work at Westmoreland Coal at Jewett. He and his family lived in Mexia for a short time and then moved to Groesbeck, where his daughters graduated from school. Red worked at the coal mine as the head maintenance supervisor, until retiring four years ago.

Red was an avid fisherman and had many talents, which enabled him to build his house/ shop from the ground up by himself. He enjoyed working on his land all the time, getting it landscaped. His latest project had been welding a pipe fence all around the house.

Red is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Natalie Miller and B.C. Lee of Axtell; daughter, Brook Miller of Groesbeck; 5 grandchildren, Tyler Garcia and Taylor Oxford, Dominic Rosales II, and Hanna Jablonowski, Brandon and Megan Lee, Miranda Lee, and

Elizabeth Lee; and 5 greatgrandchildren: Fenix Garcia, Ava Ray, Isabella Hamlin, Elijah Johnson, and Za’riyah Landrum. He will also be missed by his dog, Maxine.
