Scott Barnes

Funeral services for Scott Barnes will be held on Sunday, July 27, at 2 p.m. at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett. Interment will follow the services at Jewett Cemetery.
Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Barnes passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the Mexia L.T.C.
He was born in Houston on June 26, 1952, and grew up in LaPorte. He moved to Jewett in the mid-1980’s and worked for the Jewett mine as a heavy equipment operator. He met the love of his life on the job, Karen Niemi, who passed away in 2016. Scott loved hunting and fishing and building Ford hot rods. He was a believer in God and raised in the Lutheran Church. 
He is survived by one son, Branden Niemi & wife Carrie of Groesbeck; two grandchildren, Blaze Niemi and Skylynn Niemi; one sister, Kelly Barnes Thompson of Cleveland; nieces and nephews, Karen Johnson Holley Barnes, Meredith Jaquay, John Barnes, II, Joshua Thompson, and Justin Thompson; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Leigh Niemi; two brothers, John R. Barnes and Wayne Barnes; one sister, Barbara Hulen; and his parents, John V. & Meredith Barnes.
