Silvio Lopez Turrubiarte
Silvio Lopez Turrubiarte, age 94, passed away at his home in Groesbeck on Thursday, May 5, 2022, with his family by his side throughout the past five weeks of illness from a stroke.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 7, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Roberto Reyna of Bethel Church of Sherman and Rev. David Sosa of Gethsemane Church in Dallas officiated. Music was provided by pianists Jody Turrubiarte and Elena Vaiz. Burial followed in
Cobb Cemetery. Pallbearers were Adam Turrubiarte, John Liscano, Zane Donahue, Fred Hicks, Nuno Selvera, John Chapa, Noah Turrubiarte and Ellis Turrubiarte.
Honorary pallbearers were Albert Turrubiarte, Bud Green, Fidel Turrubiarte, Aaron Turrubiarte, David Turrubiarte, Diana Cordova, Juan R. Chapa, Rodolfo Turrubiarte, Raymond Garcia, Mario Turrubiarte, and Joel Beck.
Silvio was born February 10, 1928, in Thornton. He was the third child and first son of Francisco Ramos Turrubiarte and Maria del Socorro Lopez Turrubiarte. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend. He was a great dad to Zane Donahue and a wonderful “papi” to Jackie Hicks, his great niece.
Silvio only attended a couple of years of school but was blessed with knowledge and ability to excel in many areas of work. He and his Dad worked with W.T. Lattner at the farm for several years, then went to work at the cotton mill in Mexia. After the cotton mill closed, he went to work for Oswalt Lumber in Groesbeck, where he worked for many years until it closed due to Mr. Oswalt’s bad health and death. He later worked for Jackson Cabinet Shop in Groesbeck. He enjoyed his work and he was a perfectionist.
He and Mr. Oswalt and Mr. Jackson built many homes in this area and he was privileged to meet many wonderful people. Silvio also donated a lot of his services to help others, especially elderly folks who needed things fixed. He always said that when he became unable to do a good and quick job, he would step down. He wanted to do his job and be an asset, not a liability.
Silvio had taken care of his Dad when he became ill and when he was gone, he took care of his Mother and his siblings when they needed help in every way.
Silvio was preceded in death by his father, Francisco in 1964; his mother, Maria del Socorro in 1997; sister, Luz Turrubiarte; sister, Enedina Cordova in 2001; sister, Elizabeth Turrubiarte in 2012; sister, Olga Liscano in 2017; and four nephews: Arthur Turrubiarte, Christopher Robert Turrubiarte, Benito Cordova, and Steven Cordova.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Lucia Turrubiarte of Lewisville; sister, Esperanza T. Cordova of Groesbeck; brother and sister-in-law, Noah and Jody Turrubiarte of Pflugerville; sister and brother-in-law, Naomi and Juan Chapa of Arlington; brother and sister-in-law, Eliseo and Dorothy Turrubiarte of Groesbeck; sister, Mary Frances Turrubiarte of Groesbeck; sister and brother-in-law, Lou and Bud Green of McKinney. Also, he is survived by his lifelong friend, Orpha Cordova of Groesbeck; his cousins; 32 nieces and nephews; 32 great nieces and nephews; and 18 great-great nieces and nephews.
