Lady Goats defeat Elkhart 3-0, Crockett 23-1
Coach Windy Roberts and her Lady Goats are off to a great start in district play with a 4-1 record. Overall, Groesbeck has a 12-6 record. This past week, the Lady Goats defeated Elkhart 3-0 and dominated Crockett 23-1.
“We have our spells when we get into hitting slumps. For the most part, our defense has been pretty strong all the way around,” Coach Roberts said. “We pray to get into the playoffs and to go deep.”
On Tuesday night, Adrianna Rich didn’t allow the Lady Elks to score, only giving up one hit as Groesbeck took a 3-0 victory over Elkhart. She struck out 13 batters while pitching for the Lady Goats.
In the first inning, Rich drove in a run after she tripled to give Groesbeck a 1-0 lead. The Lady Goats would get two more runs across home plate to take the 3-0 home win. The Lady Goats did not have a single error in the field throughout the game.
On Friday, the Lady Goats traveled to Crockett to take on the Lady Bulldogs and came home with a huge 23-1 road win.
Groesbeck had 12 hits, including a home run by Adrianna Rich in the second inning. The Lady Goats scored nine of their runs in the fourth inning to boost their victory.
Rich pitched three innings for Groesbeck and only allowed two hits, while striking out seven batters. Elaine Ramirez recorded the last three outs in the final inning for the Lady Goats.
Members of the Lady Goats softball team are seniors Breann Bradley, Amiah Dunn, Addy Rich; juniors Carley Rand, Emma Samford, Cameryn Ward; sophomores Molly Clay, Hannah Galvan, Haley Garrett, and Elaine Ramirez; freshmen Caroline Mathis, Ali Platt, and Janae Trojacek.
The Lady Goats hosted the Buffalo Lady Bison on Tuesday night. Groesbeck will travel to Fairfield on Friday night to take on the Lady Eagles before hosting the Franklin Lady Lions next Tuesday night.
