Health fair to offer free screenings, info
Mexia area residents are being encouraged to attend a community health fair that will offer free health screenings, health information and tips, and more.
The event is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 16, at the Mexia Civic Center, from 9 a.m. to noon. Admission is free and open to anyone with an interest in improving their health.
At last count, around 40 healthcare vendors have said they will take part, manning tables or booths inside the Civic Center, with plenty of room and time to ask questions and hear the answers from people on the front line of healthcare.
Hosting the health fair are Parkview Regional Hospital, the Mexia Area Chamber of Commerce and the Advocacy Center.
Jennifer Lynch, with Parkview, expressed hope that many people will take advantage of what the health fair will offer.
“Some of the vendors are different than the ones last year, so there will be new folks,” she said. “We would love to have everybody in the community come out and visit with these vendors. It would be an excellent opportunity to get some up-to-date health information, get some screenings done and kick off 2018 in a healthy way.”
Some of the screenings offered will be blood glucose, stroke, hemoglobin (iron), basic cholesterol, blood pressure and grip strength. Other information will cover back safety; and instructions in hands-only CPR will be given throughout the morning. There will also be much information on hospice, home health, other hospitals, Cross Fit and some insurance companies; also a few physicians are expected to be on hand to talk about the services Parkview offers and to answer general questions.
