Limestone County Historical Commission Conducts October Meeting
The Limestone County Historical Commission conducted its regular meeting on October 3, 2017 in the meeting room in the basement of the Limestone County Courthouse. Members present were Bubba McDonald, Tom Hawkins, Cindy Pollard, Linda Jordan, Bruce Jordan, Sarah McReynolds, Joe Phillips, Dixie Hoover and William Reagan. Larry Smith of Groesbeck was present as a visitor.
After Chair Reagan called the meeting to order and after a quorum was verified, the minutes of the previous meeting were discussed and approved.
Mr. Smith asked whether anyone knew the status of the county tourism website. Mrs. Hoover responded that Susan Cates, Director of the Mexia EDC, had informed her that the framework of the website was being developed after which a meeting of all parties would be held to show how to add items. Mrs. Hoover also added that the Brazos Trails Region was reestablished and members of the board of directors have been appointed.
Mr. Smith addressed the commission by stating that he believes that a county tourism steering committee should be formed to develop more ideas for the promotion of tourism in the county and thought the CHC might be the group to initiate the process. Commission members expressed concerns about doing anything without first speaking to Mrs. Cates. Mr. Smith volunteered to meet with her.
