Limestone County Historical Commission Conducts September Meeting
The Limestone County Historical Commission conducted its regular meeting on September 5, 2017 in the Limestone County Courtroom. Members present were Bubba McDonald, Tom Hawkins, Cindy Pollard, Linda Jordan, Joe Phillips, Dixie Hoover and William Reagan. Larry Smith of Groesbeck was present as a visitor.
After Chair Reagan called the meeting to order and after a quorum was verified, the minutes of the previous meeting were discussed and approved.
Following some comments by Mr. Smith, the commission members discussed county tourism for quite some time. It was agreed the CHC should be involved in this endeavor.
Mr. McDonald reported that he had returned the damaged historical marker for the Tehuacana Cemetery to the state. If a replacement marker is purchased, it would be the responsibility of the cemetery association. He added that when he picked up the marker in Tehuacana, he spoke with three members of the cemetery association. One of the members asked him about the Historic Cemetery designation application that was submitted to the state last year by the CHC. Mr. McDonald reminded them that it was on hold until the cemetery association resolves the discrepancy with the cemetery’s boundary. The appraisal district records indicate an additional 1.6 acres that are not currently contained within the cemetery.
