Retired Teachers meet in Groesbeck

Staff Report

The Limestone County Retired Teachers Association met in Groesbeck at the high school library for its January meeting.

A program was presented by members of Cross Creek Meadows, a non-profit organization that will provide therapeutic riding and healing of horses to children, veterans and others with disabilities.

A series of personal events led Darla Wurtz to pursue making this retreat begin to take place.

The retreat-style setting is on 85 acres that will house an Equine Center. Cross Creek Ranch will be developed in three phases, as funds are available:

1. The essentials - electricity, water, fencing, etc.

2. Cross Creek Lodge-retreat Center

3. Individual cabins. Kari Thoelie presented studies on how horses are used as therapy for children with many kinds of disabilities. Jilly Thoelie assisted by handing out brochures.

Association President Laura Rothrock led the business meeting with a call to order. An invocation was given by Nancy Davis, and the group pledged to the flag. The report of the nominating committee was presented by Patty Manley and Helen Matthews.

The election of the new officers will be held at the next meeting. The next meeting will be held at Parkview Regional Hospital, with a presentation by Jennifer Lynch.
