Troopers across the state show family support

The grounds were covered with first responders and citizens of the community in Fairfield at the Freestone County Courthouse Sunday evening. They were there to pray for the family of fallen DPS Trooper Damon Allen.

People laid wreaths, candles, comforting gifts and tied balloons around a Department of Public Safety squad car to give tribute to one of Mexia’s heroes.

Allen served on the force 15 years before being gunned down as he was walking back to his patrol car after a traffic stop on Interstate 45 just south of Fairfield on the afternoon of Thanksgiving.

The man responsible for shooting Allen is behind bars while his family and friends take time to share memories of their fallen hero.

A visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.

Funeral Services for Damon Allen will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Mexia High School football stadium. There will be three streets closed beginning at 8 a.m. that Friday morning. Street closures will be Bailey, Evelyn and Jack Oliver.

Non- processional parking will be at the Walmart and Tractor Supply parking lots where shuttle buses will be available starting at 8:30 a.m. School will be continued as scheduled.
