BBB on hurricane season

Hurricane season began June 1, and forecasters at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are predicting abovenormal hurricane activity in 2020, which means there could be three to six major hurricanes this year. With towns along the coast, Texas may face the storms head-on.

The Navasota Valley Young Marines will be having registration for new recruits on Sat., July 11. The Young Marines is a non-profit youth organization that helps teach our youth how to be better citizens, leaders, and community service. They also teach drug awareness, first aid/CPR, land navigation, swimming, fire prevention, and many other skills. This youth group is for kids ages 8-18, and is especially helpful for our youth thinking about joining the military after graduation. They don’t recruit for any specific service, but do teach basic close order drill, and rank structure.

Board votes to Keep English Courses with UT OnRamps

In addition to discussing transportation during COVID-19 at their regular meeting on Monday, June 15, Groesbeck ISD school board spent an extensive amount of time considering the Dual Credit and Dual Enrollment opportunities in place at the high school. Navarro administrators Jeanette Underwood, Dean of Dual Credit, and Renae Tribble, Director of Dual Credit addressed the board during the ZOOM video conference call to explain changes to the program in recent years, as well as answer questions from board members.
