Groesbeck Ex-Students Association salutes its 2018 scholarship winners
In addition to sponsoring the annual Groesbeck Homecoming, the other main objective of the Groesbeck Ex-Students Association is the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships to five graduating seniors each year. The 2018 Ex-Student scholarship recipients are named below. The five scholarships are named for an outstanding school related persons from the past, and a brief resume of these individuals is also given.
Mikayla Standford received the W. A. (Pappy) Browder Scholarship. She plans to attend the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, and she plans to major in journalism and hopes to also obtain her teaching credentials. Mr. Browder was on the first Groesbeck Goat football team in 1901. He conducted many fundraisers for the GHS athletic department. He served as mayor of Groesbeck for several years and was in the insurance business.
