    Humberto Cruz won a haul of goodies with his second and third place poetry contest winnings. His poem entry “Paradise” won second place, and his entry “Liberate Yourself” won third in the 13-50 age group in the first-ever Poetry Contest held by the Groesbeck Journal and Public Library.     Elizabeth McDaniel was honored by her prize winnings from her second place win in the 50+ age group in the first-ever Poetry Contest held by the Groesbeck Journal and Public Library. “Writing is an art and we need to keep pursuing it because people don’t do it much anymore. It brought something back out of my past,” she stated. Her entry “Full Circle” won her a free dinner at Mely’s Diner, a year Groesbeck Journal subscription, and a gift certificate for the upcoming Groesbeck Library book sale.

    “I was very elated and very honored to find out that my poems won.
