Rita's Reflections

By Rev. Dr. Rita Sims, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, Kosse

This week, our country will pause once again to set aside a day of prayer.  The National Day of Prayer, begun in 1952 when Harry S. Truman was president, is observed by communities all over the nation.  Communities host events such as prayer vigils, Bible readings, prayer services, and prayer breakfasts in an effort to unite people of different faiths to join together in prayer.  The time of prayer generally focuses on prayer for the government, schools, families, military, businesses, churches and the media.  The theme Bible verse for this year is from Daniel 9:19, "O Lord, listen!  O Lord, forgive!  O Lord, hear and act!  For your sake, O my God!"
