Shepherd Sayings

Pastor Jack, Kosse Baptist Church

How do you handle the storms of life? The Apostle Paul, in Acts chapter 27, tells about a storm in his life. Read Acts 27. To keep the boat from running aground, the sailors cast out four anchors (27:29) These four anchors held the ship safe through the night. Why four anchors? Is that all the anchors they had on board? Or is it that since the wind can come from any point on the compass one must prepare for the unexpected.

What about other storms in life? Storms such as sickness, death, loss of job, family breakup, moving etc.! How can one prepare for these storms? There is an old hymn that suggests a remedy. It says, “In times like these you need a Savior, in times like these you need an anchor; be very sure, be very sure, your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!”

In his book, “Six Hours One Friday”, Max Lucado says he and some friends owned a houseboat they kept on the Miami River. A hurricane was coming. To save the boat, they tied it to trees, moorings, and to everything within sight. The boat looked like something caught in a spider web.
