Shepherd Sayings December 7, 2017
Imagine a world without Christmas, a world with only the promise of help in the future. Such was the world before Jesus was born. The needs of people were put off. Every blind beggar was put off by the answer, “I’m sorry friend, but when the Messiah comes …” To every cripple the answer was, “I’m sorry friend, but when the Messiah comes …” For every prisoner straining to see a ray of light through a narrow window, “I’m sorry friend, but when the Messiah comes…” For centuries, before Jesus’ birth, the hurting people of the world had lived with a sense of longing in the midst of unmet promises.
However, Jesus brought a new era of help, hope and happiness to the world. Jesus’ birth completed God’s promise of a helper for humanity. Christmas is about completion. Wise men came seeking the King of the Jews. They found Jesus and “Bowed down and worshiped Him.” (Matthew 2:10) “Shepherds, acting on the message of angels, found Jesus lying in a manger. When they had seen Him, they spread the word concerning Him.” (Luke 2:16-17)
Folks, Christmas means that God completed all His promises of a helper when Jesus was born. Jesus was all people needed, then! He is all we need, now! Jesus makes life complete. Receive Him today! He is God’s best gift for a troubled heart.
Lord God, help us this Christmas season to gain a new sense of your loving plan for the benefit of mankind. Amen!
