Shepherd Sayings February 15, 2018
Out in the dessert Jesus fasted and prayed for forty days, When He was hungry, the “Tempter” (that is the devil) came and tempted Him to sin (Matthew 4:1-11).
Now the Bible says, “Jesus was tempted in every way we humans are tempted, yet He was without sin” (Hebrew 4:15). Therefore, temptation to sin is not sin.
Jesus never sinned because sin begins in the heart. The Bible says, “Our own desires tempt us, drag us off and trap us. Our desires make us sin” (James 1:14-15 CEV). James is saying we sin when there is an active desire in our hearts to sin.
A mother told her son, “Don’t go swimming”. He went for a long walk along the river. When he returned, it was obvious he had taken a swim.
His mother said, “Why did you disobey me and go on the water”? His answer is classic.
He said, “Well Mother, I just happened to have my swimming trunks with me. Without the desire to swim, he would have obeyed his mother.
What is the desire of your heart? Will it lead you into sin, or will it bring you more closely to God?
Heavenly Father, create in us pure hearts. Please help us to want for ourselves what You want for us. Amen!
