Shepherd Sayings November 2, 2017
Jesus said, “Whoever is faithful in small matters will be faithful in large ones.” (Luke 16:10) Faithfulness is a beautiful trait in pets, friends, marriage partners, neighbors, politicians and Christians.
Unfaithfulness damages families, churches, business and communities. Christianity suffers much because many of God’s people are unfaithful with their time, tithes and talents.
Parents fail to teach their children to be faithful. Children need to learn faithfulness at home. It can start with home work, carrying out the trash, sweeping the sidewalk, etc.
Henry Ward Beecher took part in a pulpit exchange. He rode out into the country, through snow drifts, to a small country church.
One man braved the snow and came to the church. Beecher wondered what to do. He decided to handle the service and preach as though the house was full.
Twenty years later Beecher met a man who called him by name. Beecher said, “Who are you?”
The man said, “Do you remember preaching 20 years ago to just one man?” “Yes, said Beecher, taking his hand and I have been wanting to see that man ever since.”
“I am the man and that sermon led me to Jesus. Today, I am the pastor of this church and there are converts from that sermon all over Ohio.”
Heavenly Father, help us to be faithful to you and all the things you ask us to do for you. Amen!
