Two or three weeks ago the Journal reported that the Limestone County Commissioners are working toward creating a county tourism website.
This writer thinks this is a great idea. Limestone County has numerous historical and tourism attractions.
An active tourism promotion program would help to increase tourism activity throughout Limestone County. Here’s hoping the tourism website becomes a reality.
The Limestone County Historical Commission is to be commended for its publishing the stories of the First Families of Limestone County. The First Family program recognizes families that lived in Limestone County before or during 1896, the 50th anniversary of the founding of the county.
Alexandra Cannon’s story about longtime local barber, Rand Bates, was most interesting. In the article Rand mentioned starting his barbering career at Kirby’s Barber Shop in Groesbeck with Ben Kirby being the owner. Of course, Rand later purchased Kirby’s Barber Shop on West Navasota Street in downtown Groesbeck and his barber shop is still in the same location.
