Believe it or not, Christmas 2017 is almost here.
And, here’s wishing one and all a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
If you are traveling during the holiday season please drive very carefully!
This past Sunday was full of Christmas events in Groesbeck. These events included the Christmas cantata at the Groesbeck First United Methodist Church, the Christmas parade on Sunday night, and the lighting of the community Christmas tree at Hawkins Park. Refreshments were also served at Hawkins Park. The very pretty community Christmas tree was provided by Larry Smith.
Inserted in last week’s Journal was the first issue of the Goats’ Pen, which is the student newspaper at Groesbeck High School. The articles are written by GHS students. Thanks to the Goats’ Pen staff at GHS for helping the entire school district be aware of activities at GHS, and many thanks to the Journal for its participation in this endeavor.
Next year, 2018, will be an exciting one as it is an important election year. The first primary election will be in early March.
The annual Groesbeck Chamber of Commerce banquet will be on Thursday night, January 18, at the Groesbeck Convention Center. Watch for stories relating to the banquet in the weeks ahead.
Congratulations to the neighboring Mart Panthers. Mart defeated Stratford last week. The Panthers will now play Refugio for the state championship of Class 2A -- Division I. Best of luck to the Mart Panthers!
The area received some much needed rain on Saturday night and early Sunday morning. According to the forecast the area may receive some more rain during the week. The forecast also calls for a rather cold Christmas weekend.
