County commissioner asks for, gets Burkeen apology
Limestone County Commissioner Pct. 1 John McCarver used the commissioners court’s April 25 meeting to tell County Judge Daniel Burkeen he needed to apologize to the commissioners court for Burkeen’s April 12 DWI arrest in Mart. Another resident told Burkeen he should resign.
McCarver’s request for the apology came during the public comments section at the end of the meeting, which had included action items on three routine raises, confirmation of employee retirement benefits and a budget adjustment.
As for the DWI arrest, Burkeen had apologized on two Waco television stations and in both Limestone County newspapers immediately after the incident, admitting his mistake and taking responsibility for it. He attributed a high blood alcohol content reading to mixing a decongestant with a home remedy that included whiskey. McCarver said at Tuesday’s meeting that the court needed its own apology.
