Dr. James Cowley Hired as GISD Superintendent at Special Meeting

The Groesbeck ISD School Board held a special meeting to vote to hire Dr. James Cowley as Superintendent on Thursday, January 4. The meeting was called to order in the board room at 6:36 pm with all board members present except Bill David Sadler. After the pledge and reading of the GISD mission statement, the board went into executive session for discussion of superintendent’s contract. Open meeting reconvened at 8:10 pm, and Ronnie Ferguson made a motion to offer to employ Dr. James Cowley as Superintendent of Groesbeck ISD, Bridgette Jackson-Tatum seconded the motion, and it passed unanimously. Next, Jackson-Tatum made a motion to hire Bill Tarleton, a retired superintendent and former employee of Region 12 Education Service Center, as Interim Superintendent until February 1, 2018, when Dr. Cowley will officially start. The motion was seconded by Ronnie Ferguson and passed unanimously. Randy Hunter made the motion to adjourn, seconded by Tom Sutton, and the unanimous decision to adjourn was made at 8:13. The next school board meeting is set for January 22, at 6:30 pm in the board room.
