Groesbeck Chamber of Commerce to hold Banquet

One of the highlights of the annual Groesbeck Chamber of Commerce banquet will be the presentation of the several awards to local citizens.

This year’s banquet will be on Thursday night, January 18, at the Groesbeck Convention Center at which time eleven awards will be presented.

The Chamber of Commerce presents nine of these awards. The awards are for the year -- 2017. The Chamber is happy to announce some of these awards this week.

*Billy B’s Sale Barn Café is the recipient of the Business of the Year Award. A more detailed story on Billy B’s will appear in an upcoming Journal.

*The Limestone County Fair Association has been named the Chamber’s Organization of the Award winner for 2017. Again, a more detailed story on the Limestone County Fair Association will be presented in an upcoming Journal.

The Chamber always presents four Educator of the Year Awards. An educator from each of the four campuses of the Groesbeck Independent School District will be honored. The Educators of the Years are chosen by the faculty and staff of each campus.

The 2017 Educators of the Year are as follows.

*Janice Bolton is the Educator of the Year from the H. O. Whitehurst Elementary School.

*Heidi Johnson is the Educator of the Year from Enge-Washington Intermediate School.

*Daniela O’Docharty is the Educator of the Year from Groesbeck Middle School.

*Debra Brown is the Educator of the Year from Groesbeck High School.

A special story on each of the Educators of the Year will appear in upcoming issues of the Journal.

Two very special awards will be kept a secret until the banquet. These include the Citizen of the Year Award and the Youth Citizen of the Year.

The recipient of a new award, the Community Spirit Award, will be revealed at the banquet also.

The Groesbeck Study Club will present its “Woman of the Year” Award at the banquet. The Groesbeck Masonic Lodge will present its Community Builder Award at the banquet.

The doors to the banquet will open at 6 p.m. on January 18, and the banquet meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. The banquet will feature a silent auction and a stretch ticket drawing.

The theme of the banquet is a “Night in TV Land”. Various businesses and other groups are decorating tables in accordance with a well-known TV show. Mary Belle Leach, pianist, will again provide music for the affair.

Tickets to the banquet are $20 each. Tickets are available at the Chamber office, the Farmers State Bank, the Citizens State Bank, Longbotham’s, Nadine’s, and the Groesbeck Journal.

The speaker for the banquet is Matthew Wright, a Baylor professor and a popular speaker.

The Groesbeck Chamber of Commerce cordially invites one and all to attend the banquet.
