Groesbeck PD continues to provide residents with Nixle real-time alerts
The Groesbeck Police Department continues to partner with Nixle to provide our residents with real-time information as it relates to emergencies or concerns within our community. We began using the service in April 2015 and have issued approximately 60 alerts in that time period. The alerts ranged from street closures and power outages to missing children. While many agencies rely solely on social media platforms to disseminate information, we’ve found that it is best to have a platform that doesn’t get lost in the daily barrage of social media posts. The service we use is delivered straight to your cell phone via text message and will often include a link that contains additional information.
The service is provided free of charge depending on the subscribers message and data rates with their cell phone provider. To register for the service, the resident simply texts our zip code (76642) to 888777 from their cell phone. They will then begin receiving the alerts issued by the Groesbeck Police Department.
To date, we have 639 registered subscribers. We encourage those who live or work in our community to register since the program becomes more successful with each new subscriber. If anyone needs assistance in signing up, they can contact the Groesbeck Police Department at 254-729-3497 and an officer will assist them in completing their registration.
