Groesbeck Study Club
The Groesbeck Study Club had their monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 6 pm at the Groesbeck Woman’s Club. The meeting was called to order and Barbara Walker gave our devotional. It was titled Time to be thankful and the bible verse is 1st Thessalonians 5:16. She reminded us to give thanks for all things/everything. And that the benefits of a grateful heart are Gratitude and Thanksgiving! Thanking God focuses us on God and not our circumstances. We must thank God all year long. She gave a wonderful prayer to end.
The hostesses for the evening, Jeri Penny, Denise Thompson, Lea Hardison, Peggy Beck and Debbie Williams presented us with a Fall/Thanksgiving Theme. The main table was covered in a bronze tablecloth with a silvery/gauze runner down the middle. The centerpiece was a pumpkin vase with a fall silk flower arrangement in it. On either side were bronze candle holders with large bronze candles and all around were their offerings for the evening. A cheese ball, sandwiches, dip and chips, deviled eggs, artichoke bites, fruit salad and fruit punch to drink. The plates and napkins had fall flowers and grapes on them and the utensils and cups were clear and sparkly. The drink table had ceramic pumpkins and full glasses and a beautiful punch bowl and the buffet was covered in a bronze paisley print and had Tres Leches cake and Apple Crisp squares and Brownies to eat for dessert. All around the room was decorated in reminders of the season. Also, the club members brought canned/dry goods for the Food for Families drive. We were able to donate 222 lbs.
Following a time of fellowship, Lea Hardison introduced and participated in the program for the evening. Gael McKeever and Lea told us about the Center for Hope (Pregnancy Counselling and Support) at the Creekside Christian Retreat near Mexia. The Center for Hope is affiliated with Carenet in Waco and is a new outreach serving Limestone, Freestone and surrounding counties. It is a place where young parents can get counselling with Christian guidance at the beginning and through the pregnancy and after as well. It is for not only the mothers but fathers as well. Onsite services include: free pregnancy tests, pregnancy decision coaching by trained advocates (adoption options as well as keeping the child), material resources (baby clothes, diapers, wipes and other items), Post-decision support (including parenting education and other things.) Off site services include: consultation with licensed medical professionals, and limited ultrasound for pregnancy confirmation. All the services are free but are not funded by the Creekside Christian Retreat. They need donors to come forward to help with supplies as well as funding. This is how they are funded. Their mission: The Center for Hope shares the love of Christ with those facing pregnancy decisions by offering options, counselling, education, and material aid along with several other areas in a loving, safe and encouraging environment. Thank you, Lea and Gael, for this information as well as your dedication to those who need it.
