Johnson advances to state for Lady Goats Cross Country team

The Groesbeck Goats cross country team competed in district and regional competition over the past 10 days.
At the district meet in McGregor, the Goats team finished one-point shy of taking first place in the varsity girls competition, finishing with 56 points to Troy High School’s 55.
The junior varsity girls’ team placed second behind McGregor at district.
Scoring high for the varsity team at district was Willow Johnson, who finished in second place with her overall time of 12:44.84, followed by teammate Brianna Dobson in fourth with a time of 12:46.63.
Genesis Hubbard and Jasmine Mora placed in the Top 20 at the district meet. Hubbard finished in at No. 12 with a time of 13:16.98, while Mora grabbed the No. 17 spot with her time of 13:43.44.
Rylie Goodman (No. 21-14:00.88), Maci Bozeman (No. 24-14:16.36) and Raigen Archer (No. 29-14:37.85) also competed for Groesbeck’s varsity in the race.
For the JV, the Lady Goats had three athletes place in the Top 10 and three in the Top 20.
Alivia Johnson finished in fifth-place with a time of 14:43.92, Daniela Venegas crossed the finish line with her time of 14:51.36 for the No. 6 spot and Gabby Saldivar came in ninth with a time of 15:04.52.
Jaedi Goodman placed twelfth with a time of 15:22.11, Kaitlyn Truett followed Goodman with her time of 15:23.32 and Genny McNeely finished in at No. 16 with a time of 15:50.01.
Bibby Puthisan came close to crashing the Top 20, finishing 23rd with a time of 17:19.78.
The varsity boys team finished third in district, 10 points behind front-runner Whitney.
