GVFD FIREFIGHTER INJURIED IN COLLISION

Our thoughts are with Groesbeck Probationary Firefighter Matt Koncaba and his family this week.

Koncaba was involved in a major motor vehicle crash this weekend in the San Antonio area.

Koncaba sustained substantial injuries and was in ICU at University Hospital Skytower in San Antonio listed in good condition at the time of press.

Koncaba lost his wife, Lexi and younger sister, Hannah in the crash. Koncaba’s sister-in-law Breanna Ray, Groesbeck High Sophomore, was also seriously injured and underwent surgery on Monday but was said to be in Good Spirits.

Reports state the four were eastbound at around 9 p.m. Sunday on FM 532 between Gonzales and Moulton west of San Antonio en route to Gonzales to visit Matt Koncaba’s father when a tire blew out on the 2005 Dodge Durango in which they were riding.

Lexi Koncaba, who was driving, lost control of the vehicle, which crossed into the westbound lane, skidded sideways off the highway, struck a tree, overturned and landed right side up in a field causing the vehicle to burst into flames.

GVFD FILL THE HELMET

In a special meeting Monday, members of the Groesbeck Fire Department voted to conduct a fill-the-helmet fundraiser for Probationary FF Matt Koncaba. GVFD will have firefighters staged at major intersections in Groesbeck this Saturday, August 12 beginning at 8:30am. The goal is to assist him financially while recovering from his injuries, at University Hospital in San Antonio. Any donations are appreciated.
