Good luck to the Groesbeck Goats this Friday night. The Goats host Whitney in the final regular season game. If the Goats come away with a victory on Friday night, the team will qualify for the football playoff.
Friday night will also be Senior Night at Groesbeck Stadium. Pre-game ceremonies will start at 7 p.m. during which the senior football players and their parents, the senior cheerleaders and their parents, and the senior mascots and trainers will all be introduced. At halftime the senior band members and their parents will be introduced, and the Band Beau and Band Sweetheart will be presented.
The Groesbeck Chamber of Commerce will have its November general membership meeting on this Thursday, November 9, at 12 noon. A lunch will be served. The speakers will be Kelli Young and Beth Westoff with the program being titled “Goals for Goats”. The meeting will be at the Groesbeck Convention Center.
Remember, the 2017 Food for Families Drive will be held on Friday, November 17, in several Central Texas counties including Limestone County.
The Food for Families Drive in Groesbeck will be located at the Fishes & Loaves Food Pantry on West Navasota Street in downtown Groesbeck. Food items collected in Groesbeck and southern Limestone County will go to the Fishes & Loaves Food Pantry, and this pantry serves those in need in all of southern Limestone County. The hours of the drive are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Non-perishable food products are solicited. Suggested items to donate are canned meats (tuna, chili, stew, chicken), canned vegetables, cereals, baby food, peanut butter, dry beans, rice, flour, sugar, corn meal, pasta/sauces, and soups.
The Food Families Drive across central Texas is sponsored by KWTX TV Channel 19, H.E.B., and the Longhorn Council of the Boys Scouts of America.

Election Day was on this Tuesday, November 7. The people of the State of Texas were voting on seven constitutional amendments, and the voters of the Groesbeck Independent School District and the Mart Independent School District were voting on bond elections. Election returns will be carried in next week’s Journal.
Early voting by personal appearance for Tuesday’s election ended last Friday. In Limestone County 453 early votes were cast. The early voting station at the County Courthouse in Groesbeck reported 405 early votes, and the early voting station at the Courthouse Annex in Mexia reported 48 early votes.
Veterans Day is this Saturday, November 11. The Limestone County American Legion Post 288 will have a Veterans Day program on this Friday, November 10, at 10 a.m. on the Courthouse lawn. Since Veterans Day falls on Saturday, this special Veterans Day program will be on Friday. The general public is cordially invited and urged to attend to honor the veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States of America!
