This is December and many Christmas activities are underway in various local communities.
One long standing Christmas event in Groesbeck is the annual Christmas cantata performed by the choir of the Groesbeck First United Methodist Church. The Methodist Christmas cantata goes back to at least the early 1940’s.
This year’s cantata will be on this Sunday morning, December 17, at 10:50 a.m. at the church. The title of the cantata is “The First Noel”. The choir is composed of some 20 members. The choir is under the direction of Mary Belle Leach who is also the pianist, and this year, Bob Bosch will be the drummer on some selections. Wayne Ball will be the narrator for the cantata.
The church cordially invites everyone to attend this year’s cantata.
Please remember that the deadline for giving gifts to Santa’s Toy Bank is this Thursday at 3 p.m. Toys may be left at the Farmers State Bank or at the Citizens State Bank. Monetary donations are also accepted. All toys should be unwrapped.
It is understood that Christmas at the Fort was another big success this year. School children from the area enjoyed Christmas at the Fort on last Thursday and Friday. Christmas at the Fort was open to the public on Saturday and Sunday.
During December several Groesbeck businesses are open each Thursday night to 7:30 p.m. to provide additional time for local folks to do Christmas shopping. These businesses are Nadine’s, Diamonds & Dust, Longbotham Furniture, Rusty Rose, and the Little Boutique. Remember: Shop at Home Before You Roam!
Good luck to our neighbors, the Mart Panthers. The Panthers will be playing Stratford on Thursday night in the Class 2A Division I State Semi-final football game. The game will be play at Snyder, Texas, beginning at 7 p.m.
May everyone have a great week and weekend!
