The hot weather is still with us. The heat, this summer, somewhat rivals that record breaking year of 2011. Rainfall is very badly needed. According to the weather forecast, there is a very outside chance of getting some moisture sometime this week.
It is good that a Veterans Day parade and observance are being planned for Groesbeck and Limestone County by the American Legion on Veterans Day this year. Of course, Veterans Day is November 11.Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day to celebrate the end of World War I. The local American Legion Post was the sponsor of the Armistice Day celebrations for several years many years ago.
I remember the community celebrating Armistice Day in the mid to late 1940’s or following the end of World War II. Armistice Day celebrated the signing of the Armistice to end World War I in 1918. It is said that the Armistice was signed on the 11th day of the 11th month and on the 11th hour.
