Jackie Joe Wilson – January 28, 1932 – October 26, 2017
Jackie Joe passed away October 26, 2017 in Palestine. Born January 28, 1932 to Jesse and Lucille Wilson in the box church community. Memorial services are pending at this time at Arlington Memorial Cemetery and Old Union Cemetery. Jackie was raised in Box Church until the family moved to Groesbeck in 1942. He attended school and was a 1949 graduate.
In January of 1951, he joined the Marines and departed for Korea in June. His military specialty was machine gun unit leader and he received honorable discharge in January of 1954. Honors received include Good Conduct Medal 1st Award, Korean Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal, and National Defense Medal.
Jackie Joe returned home and later went to Sam Houston University, receiving his Master’s. He had a great love for sports, he taught and coached for 41 years before his retirement.
Jackie Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Tracy Jo Wilson, his brother Connie Lee Wilson and sisters Martha Adams and Kaye Wilson.
He is survived by his wife Glenda Wilson of Palestine, son Paschall Wilson and wife Summer of Palestine, grandsons Paschall Allan, Phoenix Allan and Paladin Allan all of Palestine, sister Jerry Lou Wilson of Mexia and brother Jesse (Bubba) Wilson of Dallas.
Jackie Joe’s sister Jerry Lou Wilson says “Jack was the definition of a ‘big brother,’ loving and caring in every way. He had a great love for family and he loved Groesbeck.”.
