Baseball TSWA All0State Teams
Bryan - Here are the Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association’s All-State Baseball teams. Player of the Year for Class 4A went to Abilene Wylie junior pitcher Connor Carlton (12-0, 0.42 ERA). In Class 3A, POY honors went to Nacogdoches Central Heights junior pitcher/shortstop Grayson Rodriguez (14-1, 0.38 ERA and .511 batting average with 53 RBI). Class 2A POY went to Muenster senior pitcher/outfielder Parker McGrew (12-0 and a .381 BA with 34 RBI) and in Class 1A, Abbott senior pitcher/shortstop Brent Mynar received the honor after posting a 6-1 record with an ERA of 1.36, plus he batted .378 on the season with 33 RBI.
The Groesbeck Goats had three players earn all-state honors.
Chandler Boyd made second team all-state at shortstop for Class 3A. Boyd was also named honorable mention as a pitcher. The Oklahoma Wesleyan University commit batted .429 this past season with an OPS of 1.134, finishing his senior season with 45 hits, 14 doubles, four triples, 33 RBI and 42 runs scored. He also drew 16 walks at the plate and only struck out four times in 32 games. On the mound, Boyd had a 6-2 record with an ERA of 1.65 and led the team with 69 strikeouts.
Mark Smith, who’ll return next year as a senior, was named to the Class 3A all-state team as a honorable mention. Smith played solid at first base this past season for the Goats, batting .387 with 11 doubles and two home runs. He also finished with 45 RBI and scored 24 runs.
The versatile Mitchell Waller was comfortable playing any position head coach Cameron Sellstrom needed him, but mainly was a staple in the outfield and on the pitcher’s mound this past season for the Goats. The talented Waller landed on the Class 3A all-state team as a honorable mention outfielder.
