Goats earn honors as District 19-3A All-District Baseball team is announced
After a great run in the Class 3A baseball playoffs, 10 members of the 2017 Groesbeck Goats baseball team were recognized and received all-district honors.
Superlatives were awarded to Goats Chandler Boyd (Co-District MVP), Ellis Boyer (Defensive MVP) and coach Cameron Sellstrom (Coach of the Year).
Boyd had an outstanding season both offensively and defensively, finishing the season with a team leading .429 batting average and 45 hits. He was also tops in doubles with 14. Boyd’s 42 runs and 33 RBI helped in the team’s 24-8 finish and ending the playoffs as a regional quarterfinalist.
He was one of the team’s leading pitchers, recording a record of 6-2 and an ERA of 1.65, plus led the pitching staff with 69 strikeouts in 59.1 innings of work this season. He also played shortstop for the Goats when not on the mound.
Boyd signed back in January to continue his baseball career next season at Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
Defensive MVP honoree, Ellis Boyer, was another leading contributor to the Goats success this past season. Boyer recorded an 8-3 record as a pitcher, striking out 47 batters and compiled an ERA of 2.09 in 67 innings. At the plate, he batted .310 with 26 RBI and 10 runs scored and finished the year with seven doubles and a triple.
Boyer will also take his game to the next level after signing back in February to play college ball at Texas Wesleyan University.
