Goats mount huge comeback to win district opener over Eustace, 20-19
A football match up like no other on a Friday night, lights out, district contest between the Groesbeck Goats and the Eustace Bulldogs, proved to be quite the ticket.
Everyone stood for the national anthem at this game (#Respectheflag!)
Groesbeck kicked off to the Bulldogs which on their first quarter drive made it all the way to the Groesbeck nine-yard line. The Goat defense went to work with a first down stop by Titus Townes; second down stop by Landen Frazier; and a third down stop by Brayden Bradley to force a field goal. Bulldogs-3 to 0. Groesbeck's first offensive opportunity went three and out punting the ball back to Eustace where two plays later with 4:59 in the first quarter, Eustace scored their first touchdown 10-0. Groesbeck's second possession resulted in a punt back to Eustace. The Bulldogs drove to the Groesbeck 20-yard line but we're stopped by a swarming Groesbeck defense who stopped a fourth down attempt and got the ball back to end the first quarter. With 9:57 left in the half a pick-six in favor of the Bulldogs increased the Bulldogs lead to 17-0.
With under five minutes until the half, Groesbeck had a good chance driving the ball and ended up near midfield but Groesbeck was intercepted again and returned for a touchdown which was brought back by a penalty for a low block.
The Goats shut down their drive and a Bulldogs punt pinned the Goats at their own one-yard line.
One play later and the Eustace defense produced a safety making the score 19-0 Bulldogs.
