By Stephen R. Farris Journal Sports

The Groesbeck Goats scored five runs in the first two innings and five more in the sixth as they went on to crush the Waco University Trojans on the road in Monday night’s season opener, 10-2.

The Goats struck early, scoring one run in the top of the first to take the 1-0 lead after Mark Smith’s ground ball single into right scored Dravin Barber from second base.

In the top of the second, with runners Luke Bailey at third and Kestler Sexton on second, Dylan Rand drove a double into center field, scoring both players on the play to put Groesbeck up 3-0.

Bryson Ferguson followed with a sacrifice that managed to score Chody Spann and Rand as Groesbeck commanded a 5-0 lead after two innings of play.
