Groesbeck Lady Goats fall in District 19-3A opener
The Whitney Lady Wildcats ran past the Groesbeck Lady Goats in the Groesbeck Gym 58-24 last Friday, December 15 in the Groesbeck Gym. It was the first District 19-3A game for the season for both teams. Groesbeck drops to a 0-10 season record while Whitney improved to 11-5 for the season. Groesbeck hosted Marlin on Tuesday, Dec. 19 in its final game before Christmas. The Lady Goats will play in the Thorndale Tournament December 27-29.
The first half of the game seemed to show Groesbeck keeping it close as the score was 12-6 Whitney after one quarter and 27-15 at the half. What really blew the game apart was the scoring in the second half. Whitney outscored Groesbeck 13-2 in the third quarter and 18-7 in the fourth quarter. Whitney, who started two freshmen, two sophomores and a junior got balanced scoring from its team with all nine players putting in points for the Lady Wildcats.
Leading the Lady Goat scoring were Nyjana Lee and Kennedy Cox with seven points apiece. They each had a three pointer. Cox also converted two of four free throw chances. Senior Hannah Ryan and sophomore Abby Johnson each scored four points, Kiera Anglin scored two points.
