Groesbeck sweeps Lexington 6-3, 9-2, to advance to the area round in baseball playoffs
Pitcher Chandler Boyd gave up just one earned run and scattered four hits, while teammate Mark Smith blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to cap off No. 8 ranked Groesbeck’s 9-2, game two win and sweep over the Lexington Eagles this past Saturday at home.
The Goats chiseled out a 6-3 win over the Eagles on Friday night in Lexington, then closed out the best two of three bi-district playoff series with the win on Saturday.
Groesbeck broke the ice in the bottom of the second when Ellis Boyer drew a one-out walk and ended up on third base after two passed balls.
Boyer ended up scoring the first run of Saturday’s game on yet another passed ball as the Goats ended the inning with the 1-0 lead.
