Groesbeck tennis wins district tournament in Palestine

Chalk up another monumental achievement for the Groesbeck Goats tennis team and another proud day for head coach Dusty Loewe as both boys and girl’s squads captured district championships at the 20-3A District Tournament held in Palestine at Westwood High School held last Wednesday and Thursday, April 4-5.

The Groesbeck Goats junior varsity girls did a fantastic job and brought the district title home as well.

Varsity players Hayden Mills and James Nicholson won the boy’s doubles district championship and in girl’s doubles, Hannah DeFriend and Josie Wells took the district crown for the Goats.

Andre Smith and McKenzie Carroll inched close to the top in girl’s doubles, capturing third-place at the tournament.

In mixed doubles, the duo of Cason Killingsworth and Leanna Walpole bested their competition and earned the title of district champs.

Colby McWhorter was the district champion in boy’s singles, while Riley Malloy took third-place and in girl’s singles, McKenzee Lowther made district runner up.

Up next for the Goats will be the Class 3A Region III regional championships that will be held at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station, April 18-19.

For fans wanting to attend the regional tournament, A&M Consolidated HS is located at 1801 Harvey Mitchell Parkway South in College Station. Tennis courts are located between the football stadium and the school
