Junior Varsity Goats still working and learning

By Sean Turgeon Special to the Journal

The Groesbeck Goats junior varsity made the trip along with the varsity last Thursday night to Mabank to battle the Panthers.

The Goats opening series put them on offense where on the fifth play they picked up a first down on a nice run up the middle.

At the end of the offensive series, Groesbeck ended up on the 50-yard line, but could not produce a score. The goat defense sacked the Panthers quarterback and defended well against Mabank’s offensive attack, holding them to no points.

The Goat offense ran well in their second offensive series down to Mabank’s five-yard line, but could not put the ball in the end zone.

The Panthers O-line came to life making holes for the running backs and a 15-yard pass play put Mabank on the Goat 25. The Panthers quarterback ran bootleg to the three-yard line. One more run up the gut scored the first points for the Panthers.

Groesbeck’s third offensive series started with a couple of nice runs putting them on their own 47-yard line. The Goats were picked off on the next play at the 37-yard line by a Mabank linebacker.
